Taro's Origami Studio — Standard 6" Square Origami Paper, 300 Sheets, 23 Colors
Product description
This pack contains 300 square sheets of origami paper, each measuring 6 inches (15 cm) on a side. The stock is about 60 GSM — thin enough for detailed folding yet stiff enough to keep clean, sharp creases and good shape retention. The colored side is smooth to the touch while the reverse is white, which helps when a two-tone effect is desired.
In Japan this style is commonly called “kami” and it’s the go-to standard for folders worldwide. These sheets are machine-cut to precise squares so edges align and layers separate cleanly during projects. The inks are non-toxic and formulated for bright, even color without bleeding.
The set includes 23 distinct colors and features single sheets of metallic gold and silver for accent pieces. Taro’s Origami Studio developed and selected these palettes from extensive teaching and folding experience to suit a wide range of models.
On the back of the package you’ll find instructions to access complimentary step-by-step videos using the Taro’s Origami Method — a helpful resource for beginners and instructors. Typical uses include simple boats, cranes, and flowers, as well as more intricate animals and dinosaur models.
Made in Japan and packaged by Taro’s Origami Studio (Brooklyn, NY), this assortment is intended as a standard, high-quality option for students, hobbyists, and workshop leaders.
Pros
- Excellent crease retention and strength
- Large color range with metallic accents
- Precisely machine-cut square sheets
Cons
- Color on only one side
- Crisp texture can resist reversal folds
- Needs proper storage to avoid damage
VerdictA dependable, classroom-ready origami paper that balances thinness with durability. The one-sided colors and precise square cuts make it ideal for cranes, flowers and more complex models; sharp creases hold well. Beginners who want guided video lessons and folders who need consistency will appreciate this kit. Note: the paper is stiffer than craft copy paper, so reverse folds can require care.

Clearly made for folding, far better than regular paper
The 6×6 size is spot-on for origami. The sheets fold to crisp edges and separate cleanly — stiffness and color quality are excellent. Gave a pad to my niece and she loved how reliably it holds creases.

Great color variety for kids
My 7-year-old grandsons enjoy these. The 6-inch sheets are easy to fold and make sharp creases — the color selection keeps them interested.

Best of several brands we tested
We tried four brands and this came out on top: true square cuts, thin enough for complex models, strong through many folds, and the single-color side helps with instructional contrast and detail.

Bright colors and sturdy sheets — kids approved
My kids go through lots of paper so this was perfect. Colors are vivid, no bleeding, and the paper handled repeated folds without tearing. Suggest buying a plastic box to keep them neat.

Promising but a bit challenging for me
I’m new to origami and working on intermediate patterns. The paper is crisp and holds sharp creases, but reversing a fold can be stubborn and, if you wrestle it, it may crumple. Takes some getting used to.

Simple and effective
Thin, pleasant to fold. All sheets are colored on one side with white backs. I counted just one gold and one silver sheet in my pack.
