iFi xDSD Gryphon — Portable Balanced DAC & Headphone Amplifier
Product description
The xDSD Gryphon is a compact portable DAC and headphone amplifier built for demanding listeners who want multiple connection options and high-resolution playback on the go or at a desk.
Core decoding is handled by a powerful 16-core XMOS processor offering full MQA unfolding and native DSD support to DSD512. Over USB the Gryphon accepts PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz; optical or coaxial inputs support up to 192kHz. Wireless is implemented with an advanced Bluetooth 5.1 module based on the QCC5100 family, supporting HD codecs such as aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, LDAC and HWA/LHDC along with the usual SBC/AAC profiles.
Analogue I/O includes a balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn output and an S-Balanced 3.5mm path, plus line-level I/O and digital coax/optical inputs. The unit features iEMatch for sensitive in-ear monitors and an auto-gain function that adapts output level to headphone sensitivity to avoid hiss or overload. Note: a TOSLINK mini-plug to full-size TOSLINK adapter is not supplied.
Electronics employ iFi’s PureWave balanced circuit architecture with OptimaLoop multi-path feedback and a high-current amplifier stage rated to deliver up to 1000mW into low-impedance loads. User controls include XBass and xSpace tonal filters, analog-style volume control, and a SilentLine OLED that reports format, sample rate and volume. The chassis is machined from military-grade aluminum for durability and a premium feel; the overall footprint is palm-sized and intended for pocket or bag transport.
Package contents typically include the xDSD Gryphon unit, a USB-C cable and a Quick Start guide. Color reproduction in photos may vary slightly from the actual finish.

Loaded with inputs and a warm, spacious sound
This model offers an unusually wide selection of input ports, making it friendly for newcomers. Balanced output is rated at 1000mW into 32Ω. Tonally it’s slightly warm, with fuller mids, deep low end and good vertical depth to the soundstage. Bluetooth 5.1 supports many high-quality codecs and wireless performance is decent. Occasionally I notice faint white noise; otherwise it’s very enjoyable.

Solid mid-step DAC/amp
A nice evolution from smaller models, offering extra inputs and a rugged metal shell. It resembles a compact flask in shape and handles most headphones with ease. Very high-impedance cans may push it at extreme volumes, but for typical use it performs reliably.

Heads up for Apple USB-C phone users
If you plan to connect recent USB-C phones there can be extra steps. The manual recommends Apple’s USB-C to Lightning camera accessory for some setups, and several users report an "Accessory Not Supported" message with certain adapters. Check phone compatibility and support channels before assuming a direct connection will work.

Top-tier portable DAC/amp
A strong performer I’d happily recommend. Clean, detailed and capable of driving demanding headphones — a solid choice for anyone seeking high-resolution mobile or desktop headphone amplification.

A sonic step up, but watch the display
Not as tiny as some rivals, but it delivers noticeably better sound. I wish there were a first-party app for deeper control. After a month I noticed the OLED surface scratches easily and there’s only a simple pouch included, so consider a protective case if you carry it frequently.

Perfect for the traveling audiophile
I tried several portable DACs before keeping this one. It outperforms others in sound quality, offers multiple inputs for flexibility and the xBass option really helps headphones that need low-end boost. Bluetooth is reliable for TV and phone connections. I returned the others and kept the Gryphon.

Best audio upgrade I've made this year
The Gryphon transformed several IEMs and headphones in my collection. Bluetooth (including LDAC) sounds excellent, but USB unlocks extra detail and depth. It leans slightly warm and the onboard XBass/xSpace options are genuinely useful — one click fixed thin bass and midrange issues on an IEM and they’re now daily drivers. Build feels solid and premium.

Very accurate and user-friendly
I use this with Sennheiser and Focal headphones and the Gryphon sounds more accurate than my other iFi units. USB-C simplifies connections when both devices use the same plug type, and the OLED makes it easy to confirm format and bitrate. A great all-rounder for desktop and portable use.

Surprisingly adaptable powerhouse
This little unit keeps impressing me with how much it can do. The XBass and xSpace filters let you correct poor masters or tailor presentation for different headphones — more bass, forward mids, or wider staging are all easy to achieve. It’s natural and musical across genres and has no trouble driving my planar headphones with ample headroom.

Impressive clarity and controlled bass
Compared with my older iFi unit this is a clear upgrade—bass is tight, mids are substantial and highs remain detailed. I was skeptical about Bluetooth, but wireless fidelity surprised me with minimal degradation. XBass II adds punch for rock and EDM, while xSpace widens staging in a way that feels natural.

Excellent sound presentation
This is the best portable DAC I’ve owned. With my Westone IEMs and Beyerdynamic cans the Gryphon delivers immersive, smile-inducing playback. It pairs well with high-quality headphones and really brings music to life. I’d recommend it to anyone using higher-end IEMs or headphones.

A favorite in my collection
After a couple weeks I’m thrilled. Firmware updates resolved early quirks and the unit has been rock-solid. Construction and styling stand out among competitors, and the feature set is like a Swiss Army knife—wired and wireless DAC/amp, filters, IEM support, and an informative OLED. Battery life is solid for portable use.
