X-Sense Photoelectric Smoke Detector — 10-Year Battery, 5-Pack
Product description
What you get: a pack of five photoelectric smoke detectors, each supplied with a detachable mounting plate, screws and wall anchors plus a quick-start guide. Every alarm ships with an internal tamper-resistant lithium cell intended to power the unit for up to ten years without battery swaps.
Construction and size: each alarm is housed in flame-resistant ABS plastic with a low-profile circular design roughly 4.5 inches (about 115 mm) across and around 1.5–1.7 inches deep, making it compact for ceiling or high-wall placement. The sensing chamber uses a photoelectric sensor that responds to smoldering and visible smoke particles, while a low-intensity red LED provides status feedback.
Standards and safety features: ETL listed and tested to the UL 217 smoke alarm standard, these units include a front-facing test/silence button for quick functional checks or to quiet nuisance alerts. A built-in self-test continuously monitors electronics and sensor health, and the housing is designed to resist heat and flame spread.
Installation and use: mount each detector in minutes using the included screws—no hardwiring or electrician required—making them suitable for bedrooms, hallways, basements, kitchens (photoelectric helps reduce cooking false alarms), garages, and other common household locations. The alarms are intended as stand-alone devices for localized detection and routine visual/functional checks are recommended.
Pros
- Sealed 10-year tamper-resistant battery
- Photoelectric sensing reduces cooking false alarms
- Includes mounting hardware for quick, no-wiring install
Cons
- Mounting hole pattern may not match older bases
- Occasional false alarms reported by some users
- One unit failure possible before expected lifespan
VerdictThese photoelectric detectors deliver long-lasting, low-maintenance protection thanks to sealed 10-year lithium batteries and UL 217/ETL safety testing. The sensor design helps cut down cooking-related nuisance trips and installation is tool-light with included screws. Note: mounting holes may not match every old base and, while rare, a unit can fail early or develop false alarms. Overall, a solid

Mounting holes don't always match older bases
Great product overall, but I was swapping out older battery alarms and the mounting pattern didn't line up. I drilled medium holes and everything fit fine after that.

Straightforward, effective unit
Good little detectors, quick to mount. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic they'll perform well over the next decade.

One died early — disappointing
Bought a five-pack expecting a decade of use. One unit failed in under three years, so it didn't meet my expectations.

Dependable alarm with decade-long battery
This alarm checked all my boxes. The sealed 10-year lithium cell takes the maintenance burden off my plate. Installation was straightforward, the status LED is handy, and the unit feels solid and reliable. Highly recommended for home safety.

Very pleased — easy install
They went up quickly and no separate batteries are required since the cells are built in for ten years. Good value and simple setup.

Low-brightness LED is a big plus
Unlike many alarms with bright green or blue indicators, these use a moderate red LED that blinks about once per minute—much less intrusive in a dark bedroom. I bought them to complement our ionization units. Installed ~20 months ago; one produced occasional false alerts that later became persistent. Fortunately I had a multi-pack to rely on.

Alarm alerted us to a garage fire
Replaced our old units and installed these around the house. Eight days later, one triggered while we were asleep and alerted us before smoke was visible. It detected very small amounts of smoke behind a closed door, and because we acted fast the fire stayed small and controllable.
