Coleman Classic 1-Burner Backpacking Stove — 10,000 BTU, 6.7 oz
Product description
What it is: a single-burner backpacking stove designed to fold up compactly for transport. Included with the unit are the stove body, folding serrated pot supports and the control valve; fuel canisters and any adapter are sold separately.
Construction and size: the stove weighs 6.7 oz (189.9 g) and folds down for easy stowage. Its burner and pot supports are built to hold small cookware (recommended up to about a 6-inch pan). Some body components are plastic while burner parts and supports are metal; the serrated supports help keep pots from slipping.
Performance and use: the burner produces up to 10,000 BTU and incorporates PerfectFlow and PerfectHeat features to maintain consistent output and improve fuel efficiency. The adjustable control knob gives precise temperature control and the design reduces flare-ups after ignition. Under ideal conditions it can boil about 1 L of water in approximately 3.25 minutes. Suited for camping, backpacking, tailgating and other outdoor cooking where compactness and dependable heat matter.
Pros
- Very lightweight and folds flat for packing
- Strong, adjustable 10,000 BTU burner
- Serrated supports and efficient fuel use
Cons
- Plastic body sections can be sensitive to reflected heat
- No integrated igniter
- Pot supports can be less stable with larger cookware
VerdictReliable and straightforward: this one-burner unit delivers strong, controllable heat in a very small package. It’s great for campers and backpackers who want a durable, fuel-efficient stove that packs small. Expect basic construction (some plastic parts), no built-in igniter, and the best results with appropriately sized cookware and a wind screen.

Handy camp essential
A compact, reliable addition to camp gear. Easy to set up and provides enough heat for boiling water, making coffee, or a quick meal. Very portable and user-friendly—highly recommended for campers.

Disappointing build details
I like the burner, but the plastic body can soften if a wide pan reflects heat back onto it — mine melted. The sliding pot arms have play and don’t lock solidly, which makes larger pots feel unstable. Also, there’s no built-in igniter, so I mostly keep this as a backup.

Reliable — this is my third
Very dependable and easy to manage. The control knob gives smooth, precise adjustment unlike cheaper models. I’ve used it for coffee, hot chocolate, and freeze-dried meals. I bought extras for family and as backups because it’s that consistent.

Great for cooking, not just boiling
I’ve used this style for decades. It’s bulkier than ultralight systems, but for actual cooking (not only boiling water) the flame control is superior. A wind screen really improves performance. If you want to cook rather than just speed-boil, try this.

Simple, classic design that works
I tested the stove before modifying older gear and it lit reliably with the piezo, burned steadily and throttled down to a simmer. The pot platform segments help a bit in wind and the serrated edges grip pots. It’s solid enough to use as-is if you don’t need extra bells and whistles.

Good when conditions are right
Used it on a weekend trip and it did the job—nothing fancy like a dedicated rapid-boil system, but much cheaper. Boiled ~20 oz in about 12–15 minutes in calm conditions. A wind screen makes a big difference. Considering an adapter to run from a larger propane tank, but no major complaints so far.

Excellent value and very portable
Surprised by how well this performs for the price. I take it camping and keep one for emergencies. It’s tiny, light, and the threaded canisters are convenient. Use smaller pots for stability. I’ve paired it with a 1.5 L flux-ring pan and it boiled water quickly when seated tightly in the ring—stable enough to lift together by the canister.
